Take a trip around the world of sound with Smithsonian Folkways! Since its founding in 1948, Folkways has placed music by and for children at the heart of its mission to support cultural diversity and increase understanding among peoples.
That’s why in this card pack we’re sharing definitive folk music classics from the USA, eclectic masterworks by Black folk musicians from the United States and the Caribbean, and essential children’s music from across Latin America, performed by some of the most important folk musicians of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.
These rich collections invite listeners of all ages to sing and dance and play and hear together, while opening children’s ears to the sounds of Woody Guthrie, Lead Belly, Ella Jenkins, Suni Paz, and more. Each card is a fun, friendly entryway into a universe of music for folk music lovers young, old, and everything in between.
